Book Haul [4]

Happy Saturday Everyone!  After nearly a week of the rainiest weather I've seen in a long time, the sun is finally starting to peek through the rainclouds here in BC and it's so lovely to see.  In honour of the weather, I've even busted out one of my summer sundresses.  Come on summer!  You can do it!

I originally started using the title Book Haul after I saw LC's Adventures in Libraryland branch away from participating in the IMM meme.  Then, last week, she mentioned that she would be linking up with Tynga's Stacking the Shelves meme.  I miss linking up and visiting other people's blogs to see what they got for the week, so I'll be continuing with the title Book Haul (mainly because I'm too lazy to go back through and relabel and title my older posts), but I'll link up at Tynga's site.

I've just returned from the library, where I was thrilled to discover some of my hold books had come in!  I have a habit of putting books on hold as soon as the library puts them on order.  The good news is that I'm usually the first person to read the new books (yummy new book smell!), but the bad news is that I often have to wait MONTHS for the books to arrive.  This batch is no exception; I've even forgotten why I put one of them on hold in the first place.  So, without further ado, here goes!

The List - Siobhan Vivian

I know that I've gushed before, but I have the utmost respect for the reviews posted at Rather Be Reading.  These girls are like my reading soul sisters.  So when I read Magan's review of this book, I immediately knew that I'd love it.  The premise sounds SO intriguing and I can't wait to dive into this book!  Good thing hubby's off to a chess tournament tomorrow -- lots of kitty snuggling and book reading time for me!

Take a Bow - Elizabeth Eulberg

Jaime @ The Perpetual Page-Turner is another blogger whose opinion I value, and whose reviews I adore.  She posted her review of this book and I knew that it would be a great summer read.  I know I've mentioned this before, but sometimes it's refreshing to read some non-series books for a change, rather than reading one book and being committed to the next X books in the series.  I heart standalones and this one looks like it'll be great!

Unearthly - Cynthia Hand

This is the book that I honestly can't remember adding to my TBR list.  Something about the book must have spoke to me at some point, whether it was a glowing review or the plot, but I didn't make note of it and therefore have completely forgotten!  But I love the cover -- everything from the swirly text of the title to the fact that the entire cover SHIMMERS.  And the premise sounds intriguing too: the main character is half angel.  I love wings.  Anything with wings.  So I'm looking forward to this one as well.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have you read any of these books?  If so, which one should I read first?  Please leave me links to your posts and I'll stop by!  Hope you all have a FANTASTIC weekend!!

  10. What a lovely book haul this week! All of these books I either own and haven't read, or are on my Wish List. So, basically, what I'm saying is, "You have great taste!" ;-)

I know what you mean about reading standalones. It seems almost EVERY BOOK is part of a series. Oy. Gets a little old sometimes, so it's nice to have a spectacular standalone to break the monotony.

I hope you enjoy all of these lovelies while you have them :-) Thanks for sharing!

  11. Gosh - The List. So good. SO, so good. Can't wait to read what you think about it!

Also, Take a Bow is great too. Not super deep or anything but just a wonderful book. Reminded me of dance movies (i.e. Step Up, Center Stage) and shows (DANCE ACADEMY!), which I love. :) Enjoy!
